Mandy is the current chair for the Freshwater Improvement Fund in Otago (supported by the Ministry for the Environment) and a member of the Upper Clutha Lakes Trust.
This five-year project is about establishing a "community water management plan" for the next 50 years and develop a framework to achive the objectives set. In addition the trust will carry out riparian planting and study the effects of urban stormwater runoff.
The trust has identified urban growth, farming, tourism, invasive species and climate change as the main factors affecting waterways.
The trust's belief is that by working with a broad sector of the community; ORC, QLDC, scientists, farmers, urban, tourism, DOC and others to develop a programme of work has a focus on enduring water quality for the region.
